Exploring The Beauty Of Mercedes Group Of Islands In Camarines Norte

by - May 14, 2018

The Philippines is known for the white sand beach, breathtaking views, and a magnificent sunset. While Palawan and Boracay are the two most famous tourist destination, we can never deny the natural and virgin beaches that can be found in other provinces and one of them is Camarines Norte.

Camarines Norte is located in the Bicol region whose capital is Daet. Camarines Norte is a 9-hour drive from the Manila. There are many first-class tourist buses which have a WiFi, comfort room, lazy boy seats, and no stopovers for a faster and comfortable travel. One can also take a commercial flight from Manila to Naga airport which will take roughly 45 minutes. Passenger vans are available from Naga City and this will be a 2-hour ride going to Daet.

I had the chance to explore the hidden gems of Camarines Norte together with my fellow bloggers. It was my first time in Bicol region and was lucky to have visited the Mercedes Group of Islands. It is a home to unspoiled beaches with pine trees, fishes, corals and other marine life.
Just before taking the boat to Mercedes Group of Island, we dropped by the fish port where we get the chance to choose from this fresh fish and seafood and have it cooked.

Here are some of the islands that you can visit in Mercedes, Camarines Norte.

Malasugui

Malasugui is the smallest island from the Mercedes Group of Islands and can be reached in 30-45 minutes using a motorboat from Mercedes town proper. This pristine beach is characterized by powdery white sand and crystal clear waters.

Caringo

Caringo Island is surrounded by white sand and lots of shells. The oldest house in Mercedes known as “Dakulang Harong” or Big House can be found in this island.

Canimug

Canimog is the biggest Island from the Mercedes Group of Islands. Its shape resembles a crocodile, hence, this island is often called the “Crocodile Island.” It has a bay sanctuary and surrounded by pine trees and other fruit-bearing trees that serve as a home to teeming wildlife. It is also famous for having the oldest lighthouse in Camarines Norte which was built in 1927.

Apuao Pequeña and Apuao Grande Resort

A long stretch of fine white sand, pine trees and crystal clear waters that screams PARADISE! All you need is a hammock and you are assured of a relaxing stay with an awesome view. You may choose to pitch your tent or may opt for an accommodation at Apuao Grande Resort. Electricity is only on for certain hours but and signal is very weak. Take it as a chance to enjoy the surroundings, get closer to nature and totally disconnect ( for a while) from your usual world.
