Yaya Does Montessori

by - August 30, 2018

As a mother of two boys, I have been a witness to a lot of minor accidents that occur in inside our home. Kids are very active and their curiosity to know everything while trying to exert their independence makes them prone to small wounds, bruises, cuts, and scratches.

With this in mind, Glenmark Philippines, through its online wound care advocacy site firstaidforkids.ph conducted first aid training for parents and yaya. The event was held at the Glenmark BGC office on August 25.

Yaya Does Montessori was made possible in partnership with TheProjectMommyger.net whose goal is to provide basic first aid training to our trusted helpers. The training includes treatment for cuts, scrapes and even insect bites on kids. Since accidents cannot be prevented, at least those looking after our children have enough knowledge and well prepared in scenarios like this.

The half-day activity also helped the yayas on how to deal with certain skin problems especially when they are out traveling.

How to deal with burn:
1. Run tap water over the area of burn
2. Apply burn cream or topical antibacterial ointment
3. Cover the affected area with a moistened sterile gauze

When to bring your child to the Emergency Room:
1. burn area is large
2. burn were caused by fire, electrical wiring or chemicals
3. burn involves the hands, feet, joint, and genital area
4. burn looks infected (red, warm, swollen, painful, oozing with pus)

How to deal with allergies:
1. Give antihistamine

When to bring your child to the Emergency Room:
1. rashes are over his body
2. face is swollen
3. child is experiencing difficulty of breathing

How to deal with insect bites:
1. Apply ice to the affected area
2. Remove the stinger if it is visible
3. Give antihistamine and pain reliever

When to bring your child to the Emergency Room:
1. the child has a known sever allergy to stings and bites
2. the site looks infected

Glenmark Philippines also introduced its newest topical ointment known as Foskina which will be out in the market soon. This topical antibiotic can treat common skin problems of our kids. Having a first aid kit in your traveling bag and in your house is important.

What should be in your first aid kit?
-sterile gauze
-medial tape
-elastic bandage
-antibiotic cream
-burn ointment
-antiseptic solution like Betadine and alcohol
