How To Deal With Oily Skin

by - March 14, 2018

Does your skin look shiny most of the time? Are your pores large and visible? Do you often have breakouts? If you answer yes to all these questions, then there is no doubt that you have an oily skin.
Oily skin is brought about by overactive sebaceous glands that leave lipids on the surface of the skin. Having an oily skin leads to a lot of pimples and blackheads which may lead to a more serious skin condition.

Having an oily skin can be controlled. You just need to identify the products that will suit your type of skin and the routines that you have to do to at least lessen the production of oil.

1. Use a mild facial cleanser
Use gentle facial products that are water soluble. Wash the face thoroughly and make sure that there is no residue.  This residue can clog the pores and may cause even more breakouts. It is advisable to wash the face two times a day. Doing it more often can strip off the natural lining of the skin which can cause serious damage.

2.  Choose an oil-free toner
Toning your face is important especially if you have oily skin because it helps to reduce the appearance of pores. Always use an alcohol-free toner.

3. Learn to exfoliate regularly
This process is important because this removes the build-up of dead skin on the surface of the skin. Exfoliation also diminishes clogged pores to allow oil to flow freely so that it does not block the pores.

4. Moisturize your skin
Contrary to the popular belief that people with oily skin need not moisturize, even oily skin actually needs to be hydrated. The excess oil produced does not act as a skin moisturizer. Look for a moisturizer that is water based and those that do not have a scent. Most scented facial products have high alcohol content which can damage your delicate skin.

5.  Protect your skin
Don't ever leave the house without sunscreen. The ultraviolet rays of the sun make the skin older looking and may even cause skin cancer. Always check the ingredients and go for the product that is less greasy so as not to add more oil to your skin.

6. Freshen up using a face powder
The quickest way to look fresh is to do a quick touch up using your favorite face powder. Just make sure that your powder is oil and alcohol-free. If you can, look for products that are non-comedogenic meaning they do not clog the pores.

7. Absorb excess oil
No matter how you pile up using your powder, your skin will always be shiny due to oil. Be ready to use oil absorbing paper to remove oil from your face. Those with oily skin may need to touch up every two hours for them to look and feel fresh.
